Quakertown Alive! receives Pennsylvania DCED Keystone Communities Main Street Designation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEBRUARY 8, 2021

HARRISBURG, PA – The Wolf Administration awards Quakertown Alive! as the latest Keystone Communities Main Street Program. The designation is effective January 25, 2021 through January 31, 2026. Quakertown Alive! will be the administering agency responsible for implementing the revitalization effort in the Quakertown Borough.

As a DCED designated Keystone Communities Main Street Program, Quakertown Alive! will be eligible for complimentary technical assistance and programmatic support from the Pennsylvania Downtown Center (PDC) over the next five years and will receive priority status for various funding applications submitted to the Department of Community and Economic Development. As an example, Quakertown Alive! may apply for planning funds, implementation grants, façade renovation grants, development grants and public space improvement grants. It will also be eligible for Neighborhood Assistance Program Enterprise Zone tax credits for private sector development within the designated Main Street Program area.

“Quakertown Alive! is an example of a business district revitalization effort that has through the years followed its asset-based, market-driven vision and strategy to grow into the downtown it’s become,” says PDC’s Executive Director, Julie Fitzpatrick. “PDC has had the opportunity to work closely with Quakertown Alive! over the last few years, through a partnership with PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), in developing the concept of Nature-Based Placemaking. It is incredibly exciting to watch this community utilize this concept to enhance their connections between their outdoor recreational assets and the core community. With the leadership of Naomi Naylor, Manager, Quakertown Alive!, PDC looks forward to helping to guide this effort into what it will be in the future.”
